Our vision.

GRIEF BRIEF’S MISSION IS TO EMPOWER PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS WITH THE TOOLS AND SUPPORT THEY NEED TO NAVIGATE DIFFICULT CONVERSATIONS WITH CHILDREN ABOUT DEATH, SERIOUS ILLNESS, AND GRIEF. THROUGH COMPASSIONATE GUIDANCE AND EXPERT RESOURCES, WE AIM TO FOSTER UNDERSTANDING, RESILIENCE, AND HEALING WITHIN FAMILIES, ENSURING THAT THESE SENSITIVE TOPICS ARE APPROACHED WITH HONESTY, EMPATHY, AND SENSITIVITY.

How we can help.

WE OFFER SERVICES TO HELP YOU DISCUSS SERIOUS ILLNESS AND GRIEF WITH CHILDREN, USING TAILORED TOOLS, SCRIPTS, AND INTERVENTIONS BASED ON EACH CHILD’S AGE, COGNITIVE ABILITY, AND PERSONALITY.

  • Illness in the Family: If a grandparent or other close family member is dealing with an illness and is in the hospital, we can help you find the right words to explain the situation to your child, considering their age and their unique emotional needs.

  • Loss of a Family Pet: When a beloved family dog or pet dies, it can be hard to describe the concept of death to a child. We offer compassionate guidance on how to approach this sensitive topic, helping your child understand and cope with the loss.

  • Supporting Siblings: If one of your children is dealing with a serious illness, we can assist you in preparing your child and their siblings for what to expect. This includes navigating medical treatments, doctor appointments, and potential emotional distress, ensuring that the whole family feels supported and informed.

  • Terminal Illness of a Parent: In the heartbreaking event that a parent or family member is facing a terminal illness, we can guide you through the process of communicating this reality to your children. We aim to do so in a way that feels safe and appropriate, helping your family cope with the emotional impact and prepare for what lies ahead.

  • Maternal Loss: We support parents in helping siblings understand and cope with the loss of a baby, whether through miscarriage, stillbirth, or early infant death, offering age-appropriate explanations and emotional support.

  • after a death: Once a loved one has died, we assist families in finding compassionate, age-appropriate language to explain what death means and what comes next. Together, we create a supportive space for children to ask questions, express emotions, and begin to understand their loss.

What people are saying about us.

“JAMIE IS THE MOST TALENTED AND COMPETENT PERSON I’VE EVER WORKED WITH WHEN IT COMES TO GRIEF-BASED ISSUES. I MOST RECENTLY WENT TO HER WHEN A CHILD IN MY SON’S CLASS WAS DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER, AND I WAS UNSURE HOW TO SHARE THE VERY UPSETTING NEWS WITH HIM. JAMIE WALKED ME THROUGH NOT ONLY WHAT TO SAY BUT ALSO HELPED ME UNDERSTAND THE NUANCES OF HOW THIS NEWS WOULD BE RECEIVED BY MY 7-YEAR-OLD BASED ON HIS DEVELOPMENTAL ABILITIES TO PROCESS SUCH INFORMATION. IT BRINGS ME TREMENDOUS COMFORT TO KNOW THAT WHEN CHALLENGING SITUATIONS ARRIVE, I WILL ALWAYS HAVE JAMIE’S WISDOM AND GUIDANCE TO LEAN ON.”

— Rachel f., client

“JAMIE HAS BEEN AN INVALUABLE RESOURCE IN GUIDING US THROUGH A DIFFICULT TIME AT OUR SCHOOL. WHEN WE FACED THE PASSING OF A BELOVED TEACHER, JAMIE PROVIDED EXPERT ADVICE ON HOW TO TALK TO OUR CHILDREN ABOUT DEATH IN A SENSITIVE AND AGE-APPROPRIATE MANNER. THE NARRATIVE JAMIE SHARED WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN HELPING PARENTS FIND THE RIGHT WORDS AND APPROACH TO SUPPORT THEIR KIDS AS THEY PROCESSED THEIR EMOTIONS AND ASKED QUESTIONS. JAMIE’S COMPASSIONATE AND KNOWLEDGEABLE GUIDANCE MADE A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE, ENSURING THAT OUR CHILDREN FELT UNDERSTOOD AND SUPPORTED DURING SUCH A CHALLENGING PERIOD. WE ARE INCREDIBLY GRATEFUL FOR JAMIE’S EXPERTISE AND THE POSITIVE IMPACT ON OUR COMMUNITY.”
